Rare number plates to go on auction, How to register

Govt to increase fee for fancy number plates

ABU DHABI: Car enthusiasts and collectors will once again have the chance to bid for rare number plates as Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) brings back its premium license plate auction later this month.

The sale, which is to be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Grand Hyatt Dubai, will have 90 unique plates, including premium two-, three-, four-, and five-digit numbers from blocks AA, BB, K, L, M, N, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z. Among the top offerings are highlight plates BB 88 and BB 777, which are likely to generate high interest.

Dubai license plates are said to attract enormous amounts of money based on their scarcity. In 2024, two-digit plate AA16 was sold for Dh7.32 million, whereas AA999 was sold at Dh4.05 million.

Registration & Participation

Registration begins on Monday, September 22, 2025, through the RTA website or at Customer Happiness Centers located in Umm Ramool, Deira, and Al Barsha.

Participation will involve bidders having a Dubai traffic file and paying a Dh25,000 security deposit cheque that is made payable to RTA, as well as paying a Dh120 non-refundable registration fee.

Payments must be made in person at RTA centres or via credit card over the internet.
There will only be limited seating for the live auction, with priority going to active participants, so advance registration is advised. The event starts at 4:30 pm.

The RTA anticipates a second round of record-breaking offers as collectors battle over some of the region’s most rare numbers on offer.
