KARACHI: The provincial government of Sindh has announced an electric scooter training program for women and female students in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana after its success in Karachi.
The meeting, chaired by Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, took several important decisions regarding ongoing and future transport and mass transit projects.
Sharjeel Memon said that the provincial government is taking practical steps to empower women by increasing their mobility and economic opportunities. The e-scooter training initiative, launched in partnership with a private company, aims to equip women with the skills and confidence to travel independently.
On completing the program, participants will receive free driving licenses to reduce any financial barriers.
The meeting also reviewed important infrastructure developments, including the completion of the Taj Haider Bridge, a key part of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Memon announced that the bridge will be opened to the public soon.
Additionally, the government approved the launch of a new electric bus route from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Merwether Tower, with 15 eco-friendly buses designed to promote sustainable and modern transportation in Karachi.
