How much tax is collected per unit in electricity bills? Facts revealed

Electricity consumers alerted as hackers exploit fake government subsidy scheme

ISLAMABAD: It has been revealed that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is using the energy sector as an additional source of tax collection. Due to which more taxes are being added to the electricity bills of consumers in different sections.

According to the report, a total of 6 different types of taxes are included in electricity bills. These include 18 percent general sales tax, income tax and advance tax.

According to the documents, more than 900 billion rupees are being collected annually through these taxes. While these taxes are also being declared as a major reason for the increase in the prices of electricity and petroleum products.

The report also revealed that consumers are being charged an additional tax of about 9 rupees per unit in electricity bills. Which is increasing the financial pressure on both the domestic and industrial sectors.

According to experts, various taxes imposed on electricity are not only making electricity expensive for the public. Rather, they are also causing an increase in industrial costs.
