ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by 26 percent year-on-year (YoY) to $2.6 billion in May 2025, compared to a deficit of $2.07 billion in the same month last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday.
Exports declined by 10 percent in May 2025 to $2.55 billion as against $2.84 billion in the same month last fiscal year.
Imports increased by 5 percent to $5.172 billion as against $4.915 billion during the same month last fiscal year.
On a monthly basis, the trade deficit narrowed by 23 percent as compared to a deficit of $3.42 billion recorded in April 2025.
Exports in May 2025 were 17 percent higher than exports of $2.174 billion in April 2025. On the other hand, imports decreased by 8 percent compared to $5.596 billion in April 2025.
The trade deficit in the eleven months of the current fiscal year (11MFY25) was $24 billion, which is 11 percent higher than $21.69 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
The country’s exports increased by 5 percent during 11MFY25 and stood at $29.44 billion compared to $28.11 billion during the same period of FY24.
Imports increased by 7 percent and stood at $53.4 billion during 11MFY25 compared to $49.81 billion during the same period of FY24.
