LAHORE: The Punjab Government has introduced a new initiative aimed at curbing plastic pollution, requiring all businesses in the plastic supply chain to register with Environment Protection and Climate Change Department by December 31, 2024.
The registration process has been streamlined through an online platform, www.plmis.epapunjab.pk, which provides business with step-by-by-step guidance.
Starting January 1, 2025, unregistered plastic manufacturers, distributors, and recyclers will face strict penalties, including Beig barred from operations.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to regulate the plastic industry and enforce new environmental laws, following amendments to the Punjab Environmental Protection (Production and Consumption of Single-Use Plastic Product) Regulations, 2023.
The new system categorizes businesses into various groups including producers, distributors and recyclers with fees ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs 300, 000 based on business scale. The move is expected to strengthen accountability, reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices across the province.
