Punjab govt approves development projects worth Rs57 billion

LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a massive Rs 57.38 billion in funds for various projects in Punjab.

In its 70th meeting, chaired by Planning & Development P&D Board Chairman Barrister Nabeel Ahmed Awan, the PDWP allocated Rs 27.49 billion for the Punjab Chief Minister Laptop Scheme, which is aimed at improving education and enhancing digital literacy.

In addition to the laptop scheme, other important projects were also approved for funding including Rs 9.17 billion to establish the University of Child Health Sciences in Lahore for education and healthcare services specific to children, and Rs 1.2 billion to build a multi-story building for Additional Sessions Judges and Civil Judges in Sheikhupura.

The DWP also approved funding for a few additional projects including Rs 9.59 billion for Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority stations; Rs 4.41 billion for the construction of the headquarters of the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) in Lahore; and Rs 1.73 billion to establish material testing laboratories in Gujranwala and Sialkot.

Rs 2.16 billion was also allocated to build aquaculture malls in the province and Rs 2.26 billion was approved for the revamping project of OPD blocks of Tertiary Care Hospitals; which will modernize existing systems
