LAHORE: Taking notice of the rising prices of chicken, the Punjab government has directed poultry hatcheries to submit three-month price records.
Punjab has witnessed a 250 percent increase in the price of day-old chicks, which has increased from Rs 50-60 to Rs 220 within three months.
This price hike has had a significant impact on the price of chicken, which has increased from Rs 450 per kg to Rs 900 per kg.
The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has taken notice of the alleged collusion of poultry hatcheries and directed them to submit three-month price records.
Several complaints suggested that the price hike is the result of anti-competitive practices by hatcheries.
To stabilize chicken prices, the Punjab government has decided to impose restrictions on the export of chickens to ensure adequate supply in local markets and curb rising prices.
Market sources have indicated that the increase in chicken prices is becoming an annual problem, with a recent increase of Rs 200 per kg.
However, due to government measures, the price of chicken has seen a slight decline, falling by Rs 50 per kg to Rs 850.
Authorities are actively working to stabilize prices and provide relief to the public.
