LAHORE: The Lahore administration has introduced revised school trimmings amid an environmental crisis with smog of its top concerns.
Starting October 1, 2024, schools in Lahore and other Punjab cities will follow a revised schedule to combat worsening smog levels. Classes will begin at 8:45 a.m. for all grades, wrapping up at 2:30 p.m. for secondary students and earlier for nursery and preschool classes.
Fridays will have shorter hours, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This adjustment prioritizes students’ comfort and health during poor air quality months while maintaining effective learning schedules.

The Punjab government has taken additional measures to mitigate health risks. Outdoor exercises for school children are suspended until January due to hazardous smog levels, which pose serious health risks like strokes and respiratory diseases. Parents are advised to take note of the new timings as winter approaches.
