Punjab schools may close early due to intense heat

Balochistan announces summer vacations in heat-hit zones from May 23

LAHORE: Due to intense heat in Punjab, heat wave alert and possible Eid-ul-Adha holidays, summer vacations in educational institutions are likely to start earlier than usual.

The advisory issued by the PDMA for May, June, and July has warned that temperatures will remain above normal in most districts of Punjab from May 7 to 11, while there is also a risk of heat wave.

According to sources, the possible Eid-ul-Adha holidays are expected from May 27 to 29, while May 30 and 31 will be a long break due to weekly holidays.

It is being shown that schools will be closed from May 27, although summer vacations usually start from June 1.

On the other hand, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has suggested reducing summer and winter vacations to make up for the educational loss so that the number of academic days can be increased from 180 to 190.

Meanwhile, private schools have demanded that the government allow summer camps to run from 7 am to 10 am during the summer vacations so that the educational losses of the students can be compensated.

According to the Education Department, the final schedule for the summer vacations will be announced after the weather conditions and the decision of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
