Schools closed in Sialkot: Here’s why!

Govt issues notification regarding winter vacations in Punjab schools

SIALKOT: Schools have been closed in Punjab’s Sialkot city after record-breaking rainfall surpassed all levels recorded in the last 11 years.

According to official data, more than 335 mm of rainfall was recorded in different parts of the district.

The torrential rains have inundated several areas including Rangpura, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Darra Arain and Prem Nagar. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rains in the coming days.

The flood in Dek Nala has submerged several nearby villages. According to the district administration, rescue teams are actively working to shift the affected residents to safer places.

In view of the deteriorating situation, Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali has announced a local holiday in all educational institutions in the district.

The decision was taken in light of the emergency situation arising due to heavy rains and possible flooding.

The Deputy Commissioner has urged citizens to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and strictly stay away from rivers, streams and flood-affected areas. Section 144 has been imposed across the district, strict action will be taken against violations.
