Omar Ayub PTI leaders bail

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Friday ordered the release of five Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders including Omar Ayub and Raja Basharat, a day after they were taken into custody from outside Adiala Jail.

Both leaders were presented before the court for their remand, however, the court ordered their release.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, along with former Punjab law minister Basharat and Ahmed Chatha were arrested in cases registered at Injra Police Station in Attock and Hassan Abdal Police Station.

PTI leaders’ lawyers appeared before the court with their interim bail orders, which were granted by the Peshawar High Court.

During the hearing, the court, questioned police, “Why were they arrested when the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had already approved their protective bail?”

After his release from prison, the opposition leader, while talking to the media, said that he was kept in illegal detention at the Adiala jail police post, where he was shifted on Thursday night.

He said that he also had the protective bail issued by the Peshawar High Court. “The court asked police under which capacity they had the authority to arrest in the presence of a protective bail, but they had no answer to it,” he added.
