LAHORE: In a swift operation, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intercepted a large quantity of unhygienic meat from sick animals, preventing its distribution to local food outlets.
Acting on a tip-off, the PFA conducted a raid on a building in the Township area, where they discovered 12.5 maunds (approximately 500kg) of substandard meat concealed under the seats of a passenger van.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid revealed that the meat was intended for supply to various local eateries, posing a significant risk to public health. The authority promptly seized the contaminated meat and disposed of it to prevent any potential harm.
A case has been registered against the meat supplier for transporting meat from sick animals to shops, and one suspect has been taken into custody by the police.
This crackdown on unhygienic meat distribution is part of the PFA’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers from health hazards.
