Unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet habits lead to diabetes in adolescence

Unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet habits lead to diabetes in adolescence

ISLAMABAD: Medical experts have warned that unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activity, and poor lifestyle choices are among the major reasons behind the rapid increase in blood sugar levels, which can eventually lead to diabetes.

According to health specialists, the number of diabetes patients is increasing rapidly across the world due to excessive consumption of fast food, sugary drinks, and a lack of exercise. They said obesity, stress, insufficient sleep, and family history also significantly raise the risk of developing the disease.

An unbalanced diet a major factor

Experts say frequent consumption of sugar, soft drinks, bakery products, and junk food causes a rapid rise in blood glucose levels, making it difficult for the body to use insulin effectively.

Lack of exercise increases risk

Medical professionals stated that avoiding daily physical activity can lead to insulin resistance, which is considered one of the main causes of high blood sugar levels.

Stress and poor sleep also harmful

According to experts, mental stress and lack of proper sleep negatively affect hormones, resulting in imbalanced blood sugar levels.

Health experts have advised people to adopt healthy habits to prevent diabetes, including consuming a balanced diet rich in vegetables, pulses, and fiber.

They also warned that excessive intake of sugar, sugary products, and fast food contributes significantly to rising sugar levels.

Experts recommend at least 30 minutes of daily walking or exercise to keep blood sugar under control, while maintaining a healthy weight and reducing belly fat can further lower the risk.

They added that getting six to eight hours of peaceful sleep is essential, as sleep deprivation may also increase blood sugar levels.

Medical experts further stressed the importance of reducing mental stress by participating in positive and healthy activities.

According to experts, diabetes is becoming a silent but dangerous global health issue, and timely lifestyle changes along with healthy habits can play a key role in preventing the disease.
