ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top rapper, Talha Anjum, dismissed the impression that his music glorifies violence, drug consumption, or any such ill behaviors in society, claiming that his compositions never had such an agenda of dissemination.
In his recent Raftaar interview, the member of Young Stunners spoke candidly about different facets of his art and expression. When questioned regarding the consumption of alcohol and use of profanity in his songs, Anjum explained that his lyrics are mostly misconstrued.
“I have never attempted to glorify violence in my music,” he explained. “I tend to write whatever is on my mind, and sometimes it’s both good and bad words, but it’s really the listener’s choice as to what message they get from it.”
The rapper, who together with Talha Yunus constitutes the celebrated duo Young Stunners, explained that the majority of his music is based on consistency and determination, aspects that he believes are key in life, relationships, and development “If there’s one thing I want people to learn from my music, it’s how to stay consistent in life,” he added.
Talha insisted that he has no intention of altering his raw music style, referring to it as his true form of creative expression, and condemned the inclination of society to concentrate on whatever is wrong in an artist’s work. “People don’t notice the good things in my work; they immediately catch sight of the bad. A lot of times, an artist’s good persona is only discovered after they pass away,” he said.
He also touched upon alcohol consumption in certain of his songs, noting that great poets such as Mirza Ghalib also applied similar phrases to their works. “It depends on what people choose to remember.”.
Winding up his speech, Talha Anjum reaffirmed that his music does not promote the use of drugs, alcohol, and violence, and he has also composed songs based on social topics that people should take cognizance of. “There’s a lot to learn from the positive side of my music,” he said.
