LAHORE: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for the 10th spell of monsoon rains in the province.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains are predicted in most districts of Punjab from September 6 to 9.
Rains are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot, while rains are also likely in Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
Along with this, rains are also likely in the districts of Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a possibility of flash flooding in the Dera Ghazi Khan river valleys from September 7 to 9.
PDMA Punjab has instructed the commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert.
DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers are facing a flood situation, while the rivers and canals may overflow due to monsoon rains in big cities.
He said that the commissioners, deputy commissioners, and other officers are on alert.
Alerts have been issued to the departments of health, irrigation, construction and communication, local government and livestock.
Citizens are requested to take precautionary measures in bad weather conditions.
DG PDMA directed to avoid gathering near rivers and having fun. Stay in safe places in case of wind and storm, avoid unnecessary travel, and in case of emergency, contact the PDMA helpline 1129.
