Balochistan govt announces Ashura holidays

QUETTA: The government of Balochistan has declared a two-day public holiday across the province for Ashura on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, it said.

All provincial offices, education institutions, and autonomous organizations would remain closed on the 25th and 26th of June to protect the sanctity of the day and facilitate the masses to participate in religious processions and assemblies.

The decision comes a day after similar holidays were announced for Ashura by the Federal Government. Earlier this week.

Earlier this week, a notification to declare Ashura a public holiday was issued by the Cabinet Division.
On the other hand, pillion riding has been banned in the federal capital during Muharram processions as authorities placed mobile networks on high alert as precaution measure.

In Balochistan, tight security has been put in place around procession routes, with LEA put on red alert.
