Budget 2024-25: Punjab govt employees’ salary to increase from July

LAHORE: The Punjab government has considered an increase of 20 percent in the salaries of government employees in the upcoming budget for the financial year 2024-25.

Sources privy to the development said the 20 percent increase in the salaries will be for ad hoc relief and there will be no increase in the basic salary of government employees.

Punjab Finance Department has also proposed a 15 percent increase in pension, sources said.

According to the reports, the Punjab Finance Department has sent the summary of the Punjab Budget session to the law department and the upcoming Punjab Budget 2024025 will likely be presented on June 12.

Expected increase in salaries, pensions of Punjab govt employees

The Punjab governments are anticipated to declare a 20 percent increase in employees’ salaries in the upcoming budget. The governments will, however, make the final decision after considering the Ministry of Finance’s proposals.

If the proposal is approved, the increase will take effect in July 2024.

The Punjab government has set the volume of the upcoming budget for FY 2024-25 at Rs53.9 trillion with likely to receive Rs3700 billion from the federal government.

The provincial government has targeted the tax collection in the budget at Rs 1027 billion under the head of income generation.

Similarly, the government has earmarked Rs597 billion for salaries and Rs447 billion for pensions of its employees along with a proposal to allocate Rs800 billion for development projects, Rs30 billion for the Ramadan Package, Rs8 billion for the CBD, Rs600 billion for the education sector and Rs406 billion for the health sector.

Likewise, sources said that Rs9.8 billion might be allocated for the chief minister’s Roshan Gharana programme.
