Punjab govt announces new criteria for ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ project: Details inside

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently introduced the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme, which aims to provide affordable housing to the residents of the province.

Dr. Amjad Saqib, founder and chairman of Akhuwat Foundation, met Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and appreciated her efforts in providing relief in electricity bills and launching “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme.

Maryam Nawaz while appreciating the social services of the brotherhood under the leadership of Dr. Amjad Saqib announced that the low-cost housing program has been started in Punjab. She emphasized that the scope of the program will be expanded annually to help low-income earners realize their dream of home ownership.

She said that the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program is poised to be the first major interest-free housing project in the country’s history. It will be launched in three phases:

Rural areas: Loans up to PKR 1.5 million for houses up to 10 marlas, payable in monthly installments of PKR 14,000.

Urban areas: Loans up to PKR 1.5 million for houses up to 5 marlas, payable in monthly installments of PKR 14,000.

Major cities: Construction of four-storey flats on government land, to be allotted by lottery and provided in convenient installments.

Additionally, private housing schemes will offer houses ranging from 3 to 5 marlas, with the government providing a subsidy of up to Rs 10 lakh per house.

She told Dr. Amjad Saqib that the main objective of “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme is to provide housing for financially weaker groups. The government will subsidize and promote the construction of sustainable and environment-friendly houses. This initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities for lakhs of people.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reiterated the government’s commitment to improve the quality of life and reduce the number of homeless people through this ambitious housing project.
