COAS Gen Asim Munir promoted as Field Marshal, Air Chief’s tenure extended

COAS General Asim Munir

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has promoted Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal on Tuesday.

The promotion was confirmed by the federal Cabinet on the proposal by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The decision is in acknowledgment of his outstanding military leadership during Pakistan’s recent triumph in the Battle of Haq, which followed an unjustified war forced by India on the night of May 6 and 7.

In another significant move, the government has chosen to prolong the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, appreciating his contributions and leadership throughout the recent battle.

The federal cabinet noted that Pakistan’s military accomplishment has not only boosted national morale but has also improved the country’s worldwide position and reputation.

The Prime Minister chaired the federal cabinet meeting, which examined a five-point agenda that included the country’s general political, economic, and security conditions, as well as budget recommendations for the coming fiscal year. However, the meeting’s main focus was the unanimous ratification of General Asim Munir’s promotion to military rank, a rare praise in Pakistani history.

Field Marshal Asim Munir

The Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said that I am grateful to Allah Almighty for receiving the honor, adding that “I dedicate this honor to the entire nation, the Armed Forces of Pakistan, especially the civil and military martyrs and veterans”.

I am grateful to the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, and the Cabinet for their trust. This honor is the trust of the nation, for which millions of Asims have sacrificed themselves, he said.

Field Marshal pays gratitude to the nation, saying that this is not an individual honor but an honor for the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the entire nation.
