Electricity consumers may receive Rs. 1.50 per unit relief for three months

Government decides not to increase basic electricity tariff

ISLAMABAD: The consumers of XWAPDA power distribution companies (DISCOs) are likely to get relief of Rs. 1.50 per unit in power tariff for next three months as National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday concluded a public hearing into the DISCOs petition under quarterly adjustment mechanism for third quarter of the current fiscal year 2024-25.

The public hearing was presided over by Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar while officials of DISCOs, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G), members of the business community, representatives of the Ministry of Power, journalists and the general public were also present in the hearing.

DISCOs submitted a request for relief of Rs. 51.493 billion for the said period.

The authority listened carefully to the views of all the relevant stakeholders. The authority also sought an explanation from the concerned DISCOs regarding the absence of senior officers of Hyderabad, Multan and Quetta Electric Supply Companies (HESCO, MEPCO, KESCO) in the hearing.

The adjustment will apply to all customers of the discoms, including KE, except for lifeline customers, protected customers, prepaid customers and electric vehicle charging stations. The authority will issue a detailed decision after reviewing the data.
