Fact Check: Indian media’s claim regarding retirement of four Lt Gen of Pakistan Army

Indian media's claim of four Lt Gen of Pakistan Army

ISLAMABAD: Indian media outlets and social media sites are occupied with claims that four lieutenant generals, including Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor, have reiterated and some officers are expected to be promoted to lieutenant general.

Indian news website, Rediff.com, claimed that Corps Commands Multan Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz, Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lt Gen Saqib Mehmood Malik, President National Defence University (NDU) Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor, and Quartermaster General Mohammad Ali, have been officially reitered.

The report further suggests that three to four officers are expected to be promoted to lieutenant general soon primarily from the 80th PMA cohort of lieutenant generals.

Daily Ausaf fact-checked the story, and sources privy to the development ruled out any such re-shuffling in the army.

Moreover, the Indian news website wrongly reported several army officers’ designations in its report. Lt-Gen Akhtar Nawaz Satti, who was designated as Corps Commander Multan, has recently been appointed as the new chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, is yet to issue any statement on the matter.
