Federal govt launches major workforce reduction initiative by firing daily wagers

Federal govt debt reaches all time high in Pakistan's history

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government has launched a significant workforce reduction initiative, starting with the termination of daily wage employees under its rightsizing policy.

As of September 30, 2024, these workers have been transferred to a surplus pool, marking the beginning of a broader downsizing effort across multiple ministries and divisions. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency, cut costs, and boost performance.

The policy involves workforce reduction to address financial constraints and improve performance, with uniform enforcement across the federal government, affecting a substantial number of daily wage employees.

The Establishment Division has informed daily wage employees that their services will no longer be needed after September 30, with other ministries and divisions expected to follow suit.

This rightsizing policy reflects the government’s long-term strategy to restructure its workforce for better performance, addressing financial constraints while enhancing operational efficiency.
