FIA files cases against journalists over PTI protest coverage

ISLAMABAD: The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad has registered cases against dozens of journalists and vloggers who covered the November 24 protest of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), here on Friday.

As per the details, the accused named in the cases registered under the PECA Act have been charged with spreading false narratives against state institutions and inciting people

Journalists Harmeet Singh, Ahmed Noorani, Abdul Qadir, Hasnain Rafique, Salman Durrani, Imran Khatana, Maryam Shafqat Malik and Rizwan Ahmed Khan have been named in the cases.

The case states that journalist Harmeet Singh promoted a malicious narrative against the state institutions of Pakistan through his Twitter profile

According to the case, journalist Harmeet Singh made a heinous attempt to incite the public to violent acts, create a sense of fear and insecurity among the citizens and create enmity between the pillars of the state.

According to the case, Harmeet Singh incited provincialism and ethnic unrest for the political interests of certain people, which is a heinous act of sedition.
