PTI releases list of injured, missing workers in Islamabad protest

ISLAMABAD: In a recent move, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has revealed a disturbing list of casualties caused during the Islamabad, November 24 protest.

According to the data provided by PTI, almost 38 party workers sustained bullet injuries, whereas  139 are still missing. This shocking disclosure comes as the party submits all evidence and data to the court in a criminal complaint in the pursuit of justice for the victims.

The PTI has urged the court to register an FIR following Barrister Gauhar’s complaint, demanding punishment for the brutal crackdown on the party’s protesters. The Islamabad Massacre incited various outrage, with many people upset with the use of excessive force on unarmed protesters.

The peaceful protest led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi, and KP CM Gandapur quickly turned violent when security forces clashed with protesters.

The government launched a grand operation on the night of November 26 when all PTI protestors were gathered at D-Chowk Islamabad the army rangers opened fire on innocent party workers.

However, the government maintains its stance that no straight fire was launched at the civilians, but witness accounts and video footage suggest otherwise. The crackdown has instead been condemned, with some doing so calling it “draconian”.

While the Islamabad Massacre is being investigated, it is a bitter reminder of the human cost of a government’s action as given in the casualty list released by the PTI. The party’s quest for justice and accountability may further exacerbate the disturbances between the PTI and the government soon.
