FIA investigates massive embezzlement of millions from pension funds

Ramadan Relief: KP Govt to distribute Rs12,500 to 1 Million families

SINDH: A big corruption scandal has been discovered in the Hyderabad District Accounts Office. Corrupt officials took millions of rupees from pension funds meant for retired municipal employees.

They did this by reopening old accounts of employees who had died and taking out money illegally.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is now investigating and gathering information on those involved. Several people, including a bank manager and government staff, are being questioned about corruption and embezzlement.

The investigation found that around 60 old pension accounts were reopened, and millions of rupees were taken out without permission.

The scam was discovered after a bank manager filed a complaint. The bank is also investigating and has found that one of the suspects, Afaq Ahmed Shah, has admitted to his involvement and returned some of the stolen money.

Documents show that government staff paid Rs4.3 million from pension funds to the fake wife of a famous writer, Dur Muhammad Kamal, who died in 2017. Kamal’s nephew told authorities about the fraud, but they didn’t listen. Now, he’s filing a complaint with the anti-corruption department and the FIA.

This is not the first time officials from the District Accounts Office have been accused of corruption. Several officers are already facing charges of stealing Rs3 billion in a separate case.
