Fire breaks out at PIMS hospital, safety supervisor arrested

Fire breaks out at PIMS hospital

ISLAMABAD: A fire broke out on the rooftop of the under-construction emergency building at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, prompting swift action from authorities.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident raised concerns about safety protocols at construction sites. The city administration arrested the project’s safety supervisor for failing to enforce precautionary measures, with preliminary findings revealing a lack of basic fire prevention systems at the site.

The Assistant Commissioner (AC) City announced immediate legal action against those responsible, stating that the safety officer neglected mandatory protocols, putting lives and property at risk.

Firefighters responded quickly, containing the blaze within minutes and preventing it from spreading to adjacent sections. The district authorities credited the fire department’s rapid response with preventing major damage.

An inquiry has been launched to determine the exact cause of the blaze, including potential electrical faults or flammable material mismanagement. The district administration has warned of stricter penalties for negligence across all ongoing projects to prevent similar incidents in the future
