First relief convoy for Kurram finally dispatched

relief convoy Kurram

HANGU: The first convoy carrying relief goods has finally been dispatched to crisis-hit Kurram on Wednesday after it was stranded in Thal for days.

In the first phase, the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) dispatched as many as 10 trucks carrying tents, mattresses, blankets, and various other vital goods to the Bagan area in Kurram.

The security forces including the police and Frontier Corps (FC) were on high alert as the vehicles started the journey for the restive region.

According to the sources, the Peace Committee assured the government of the safe passage of the convoy last night. It has also assured the authorities of handing over the culprits involved in the attack on the Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud.

Similarly, another convoy of 12 vehicles containing food supplies is also expected to depart for Parachinar today.

The efforts to send relief goods to the Kurram district began last week after the peace agreement was signed between the warring tribes of the region.

However, the attack on DC Kurram in Lower Kurram on January 4 halted the relief operation, which was comprised of 75 vehicles.
