MUZAFFARABAD: The Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has withdrawn the disqualification of former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas.
The Supreme Court declared Sardar Tanveer Ilyas eligible to contest the elections after a month after ending the contempt of court proceedings.
The top court of the Azad state has also disposed of the appeal against disqualification against Sardar Tanvir Ilyas from the Azad Kashmir High Court and declared the former PM of Azad Kashmir eligible to contest the elections.
In April 2023, the court found Sardar Tanvir Ilyas guilty of contempt of court and disqualified him for two years. Based on the court’s decision, Tanvir Ilyas’s prime ministership and government ended.
Earlier, Ilyas filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision, apologizing to the court for the contempt of court notice given by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court and the High Court had simultaneously issued contempt of court notices to Sardar Tanvir Ilyas based on a speech.
