ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the federal government has announced four public holidays for Eid ul-Adha 2025.
According to the notification issued by the Cabinet division, Pakistan will enjoy four public holidays for Eid starting from 06, 2025, to June 9, 2025.
The notification was issued with the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee stated that the Zil Hajj moon was not seen in Pakistan on Tuesday and therefore the first day of Eid ul Adha will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met in Islamabad to sight the Zil Hajj 1446 Hijri moon. After the meeting, Eid al-Adha will be observed from Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, celebrates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah. People are preparing for the festival, with cattle markets established throughout Pakistan to purchase animals for sacrifice.
By tradition, Eid ul-Adha is associated with slaughtering animals for meat, which is distributed among family members and the needy. The faithful slaughter sacrificial animals ritually for three days of Eid ul-Adha in the continuation of the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim.
