ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to provide relief in electricity bills to citizens of flood-hit areas by waiving multiple taxes, federal minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said.

Talking to a private news channel, the minister said that immediate action will be taken to waive taxes on the electricity bills of flood-hit households.

He added that while the federal government would provide relief on electricity charges, the provincial governments would take steps to waive land revenue.

Responding to a query, he clarified that the bills in question have already been printed and are ready for distribution.

Minister for National Food Security and Research further reiterated govt will announce a ‘Kisan Package’ upon completing a comprehensive survey to compensate for crop and livestock losses in all flood-affected regions.

He said that between 1% and 3% of every crop has been damaged by the floods, with the Gujranwala division suffering the most severe blow, up to 18% of crops destroyed. He added that rice fields had taken the heaviest damage overall.

He mentioned that a survey of the flood-hit regions has already been launched and is expected to be completed by the middle of this month. The survey will assess the extent of damage to crops and gather critical data to better understand the impact.
