IHC rejects Imran Khan hospital transfer plea

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected a request by Imran Khan seeking his transfer from jail to a private hospital for medical treatment.

During the hearing, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir remarked that the court had reviewed the medical situation and noted that Dr Nadeem Qureshi is a reputable retina specialist.

The judge suggested that medical examinations could be conducted at Shifa International Hospital if necessary, but the court would not specify how long the patient should remain admitted.

The court also raised the question of responsibility in case of any medical complications. Advocate General Ayaz Shaukat told the court that the government would take responsibility.

After reserving its decision, the court later announced its verdict and dismissed Imran Khan’s plea to be shifted to a private hospital.

However, the court directed the Chief Commissioner to constitute a medical board to review the matter. The board will include specialists such as Dr. Arif and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi.

According to the order, the medical board will determine whether shifting Imran Khan to a hospital is necessary. The court also instructed authorities to inform the family in accordance with jail rules and directed Dr. Nadeem Qureshi to remain in contact with the family regarding the medical situation.
