QUETTA: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has appointed Justice Ijaz Swati as the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday.
The appointment was made during a meeting of the JCP under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
Three names were under consideration for the position of Chief Justice of Balochistan under a one-point agenda. The nomination was approved unanimously by the commission.
The decision of the commission has been duly communicated to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister through an official letter.
Justice Ijaz Swati has been serving as a senior judge at the BHC and is widely respected for his legal acumen and judicial conduct.
Justice Swati’s appointment now awaits final approval by the President, as per the constitutional procedure outlined in Article 175A of the Constitution.
The BHC had been functioning without a permanent chief justice since the elevation of former chief justice Hashim Khan Kakar to the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the JCP dropped the agenda of the appointment of the chief justices of other High Courts of the country due to an ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
