ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has hinted in an important statement that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan may face a military trial, here on Sunday.
Speaking on a private news channel’s talk show, the Defense Minister said that the PTI will have to apologize to the nation for the May 9 incidents, otherwise there will be no talks.
Khawaja Asif highlighted that a total of 24 civilian cases were tried in military courts during the PTI regime and many of these 24 cases were sentenced to death.
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered talks to the founder of PTI three times, but the current situation is right for such ‘talks’.
In a recent interview, Khawaja Asif said that if the PTI founder is tried in a military court, it will be an open trial.
Speaking to a private news channel, Khawaja Asif said that an open trial was necessary to expose the PTI founder’s ‘nefarious’ intentions. He said that PTI was found involved in the attack on national institutions on May 9.
The nation should know the nefarious intentions of PTI against the security agencies. If the former prime minister’s case goes to a military court, an open trial is essential to inform the public about the PTI leader.
Khawaja Asif further said that the relationship between PTI founder and former ISI chief Faiz Hameed continued even after May 9.
“Both (PTI founder and Faiz Hameed) had a common goal, which led to their bond,” he added.
