MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmed granted bail in Arson Case

MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmed granted bail Arson Case

KARACHI: Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H) chairman Afaq Ahmed was released on Tuesday after being granted bail in a third arson case involving the torching of several heavy vehicles following a press conference condemning traffic accidents in Karachi.

An Additional District and Sessions Judge in Karachi’s West District granted Afaq bail in the case where a group of people set a tanker on fire. The court, while granting his bail application, directed him to submit surety bonds of Rs 100,000.

Earlier, Afaq was sent to jail on judicial remand by a magistrate in the case of setting a water bowser on fire in Surjani Town.

The incidents occurred after Afaq’s press conference earlier this month, where he criticised the increasing number of traffic accidents in Karachi.

He also faced two other cases registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at Landhi and Awami Colony police stations. Although he had secured bail from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in these cases, the Surjani police re-arrested him from the Central Jail.

Afaq was detained from his DHA residence on February 11, a day after his scathing remarks against the authorities over “92 deaths due to dumper trucks in just 40 days” in Karachi.
