Multan SHO arrested for assaulting elderly man

Multan SHO arrested

MULTAN: A police officer, who tortured an elderly citizen, in Multan has been suspended and arrested on Friday following instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Chief Minister Punjab took action after a video of SHO New Multan Police Station, Shafiq Ahmed, beating and dragging a citizen in Multan went viral.

A cop can be seen in a video assaulting a citizen riding a bike after he was spotted on the road, which was blocked for any kind of traffic as the cricket team convoy was passing from the road under strict police security.

The SHO grabbed his collar in anger and pulled him down from the slow-moving bike, started beating him, and took him to some distance along with uttering inappropriate words.

Taking action, City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar suspended SHO Shafiq Ahmed and initiated further legal action. SP City division Hassan Raza Khakhi has been tasked to probe the matter and submit a report.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also sought a report from the Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar.
