ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched Pakistan’s first ever “dematerialized digital identity card” at the event of its silver jubilee.

The ceremony was held at NADRA headquarters, it was attended by dignitaries including Major General (Retd.) Zahid Ehsan, founding chairman of NADRA, and Lieutenant General (Retd.) Asif Munir, Chairman of NADRA.

Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, appreciated this initiative for its capability to provide secure and instant verification for different services through the World Bank-backed Digital Economy Project.

Digital verification is set to kick off its pilot phase on Independence Day 2025 and will allow the public more convenient access to government services.

NADRA’s commitment to expanding identity services to remote areas and overseas Pakistanis was also emphasized, as well as its role in supporting law enforcement agencies in national security matters.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) issued a special commemorative coin, and Pakistan Post released a special postage stamp to commemorate NADRA’s journey of 25 years.

A documentary on NADRA’s glorious achievements was shown, and a commemorative book was released, which received praise from the audience.
