Nanbai association announces strike

Bread price rises in city after increase in flour rates

RAWALPINDI: The Nanbai Association has announced the indefinite closure of tandoors in Rawalpindi from November 5 onwards. Association officials said the decision comes in response to the ongoing cases against bakers, the closure of tandoors, and threats to their livelihood.

The association said the authorities were registering cases against the nanbais, sealing tandoors, and disrupting people’s means of earning. It said that in case the administration provided quality atta, they would not increase the price of roti.

They further stated that the price of flour has doubled over the past two months, and the government has not given any subsidy to the bakers.

Leaders of the Nanbai Association added that they are forced to use LPG cylinders because natural gas is unavailable.

The move by the association is likely to affect the daily bread supply in Rawalpindi when it continues its negotiations with the administration.
