PAF jet crashes during training flight in Sargodha

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage 5 ROSE III fighter jet crashed during a routine training flight in Sargodha on Tuesday.

The aircraft was part of No. 27 “Zarrar” Squadron of the 32nd Tactical Attack Wing. Initial reports said the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff.

The pilot managed to eject safely and escaped unhurt. Authorities are yet to reveal the exact cause of Tuesday’s crash.

The Mirage 5 ROSE III (Retrofit of Strike Element) is part of the PAF’s modernized Mirage fleet, which has been upgraded with modern avionics and strike capabilities to extend the aircraft’s service life.

Although based on an older French design, the upgraded Mirages are a vital component of the air force’s attack and reconnaissance missions.
