ISLAMABAD: Pakistan ranked second in the list of countries affected by terrorism in 2024, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2025 published by the Institute for Economics and Peace.
As per the report, 1,099 terrorist incidents occurred in Pakistan in 2024, resulting in the death of 1,081 people, which is a 45% increase compared to 2023.
These figures not only reflect the growing threat of terrorism but also raise questions about the security situation in the country.
Terrorism incidents continued in 2025, including the recent attack on a school bus in Balochistan, in which six students and two military personnel were martyred.
The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has emerged as the fastest-growing terrorist group, with a 90 percent rise in attributable killings. For the second consecutive year, the TTP remains Pakistan’s deadliest terrorist outfit. It caused 52 fatalities in Pakistan in 2024.
Last year, the TTP carried out 482 strikes, resulting in 558 killings, a 91% rise from the 293 deaths the year before.
In 2024, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) carried off the most deadly terror strike in Pakistan, with a suicide bomber killing at least 25 civilians and troops at Quetta train station.
Furthermore, the growth in Baloch terrorist organizations’ activity has greatly contributed to the increased levels of terrorism in Pakistan in 2024.
Meanwhile, according to the Terrorism Index 2025, Burkina Faso is the most terrorist-affected country in the world.
It has topped the list for the second consecutive year. The main reason for this is the increasing terrorist activity in the Sahel region, where extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS-affiliated organizations are operating.
