LAHORE: A Punjab Police spokesperson said that 3,375 people have been arrested in the province related to the Anti-Kite Flying Act violations this year, which has also included 3,301 FIR cases.

Authorities also seized 446,506 kites and 15,888 spools of kite string. The number of challans associated with these cases includes 3,060. In Lahore alone this year police have arrested 1,010 people, registered 991 cases and seized 24,824 kites and 1,168 string and spools.

In contrast in the prior year, there were 12,525 arrests and 11,866 cases across Lahore and the entire rest of Punjab for kite flying violations.

The Inspector General of Punjab has indicated that the amended Kite Flying Prohibition Bill would be enforced professionally and he directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs), to undertake a more vigorous approach and operations against individuals or groups who manufacture, sell or participate in kite flying.

He also emphasized that the life-threatening practice cannot be allowed for any reason, saying to take a zero-tolerance method. He also stated while discussing the bill that legal action is the correct course of action for any person who engages in the online selling of kites with metallic, or dangerous string.
