PPP activists protest against KP govt over corruption, power crises in Peshawar

PESAHWAR: A large number of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers, including women workers, staged a protest outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial assembly on Monday as part of the party’s “Save the Province” movement.

The participants strongly condemned the alleged corruption and incompetence of the provincial government.

They were raising slogans against the provincial authorities, accusing them of turning a blind eye to corruption and failing to address important issues affecting the people.

They also carried placards highlighting issues such as rampant corruption, frequent power outages and rising unemployment.

Addressing the protest, PPP leaders claimed that corruption worth over Rs41 billion had taken place in Kohistan alone, despite which no investigation had been initiated.

They criticised the provincial administration for failing to take action against such massive financial irregularities.

They also pointed to the growing power crisis, highlighting the ongoing, severe load shedding across the province, which they alleged the government had completely ignored.

The protesters also condemned the rising unemployment among the youth, and alleged that the KP government was irresponsible for their plight.

“Our youth are unemployed, and no one is listening to their complaints,” said one protester.

The protest blocked both sides of the busy Khyber Road, disrupting traffic.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Tight security arrangements were made around the assembly to avoid any untoward incident during the protest.
