LAHORE: In a move to alleviate the financial burden on electricity consumers, Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has unveiled a comprehensive relief package, effective immediately.
This initiative aims to reduce electricity bills for approximately 3.5 million consumers across Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Islamabad.
Relief Measures for Electricity Consumers
- Reduction of Rs14 per unit for consumers using 201 to 500 units of electricity
- Builds upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier announcement of an Rs50 billion relief package
- Relief package applicable to consumers using up to 200 units of electricity
- Approximately 3.5 million consumers benefit from the relief measures
- Relief measures aimed at reducing electricity bills and alleviating the financial burden on consumers
Moreover, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has received praise for her leadership in delivering relief to the public during challenging economic times.
She reaffirmed her commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens and fulfilling the promises made by the PML-N leadership.
The relief package is part of a broader strategy to reduce electricity costs, with future initiatives focused on promoting solar energy solutions.
Earlier, Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the government will also provide solar systems to consumers using between 200 and 500 units of electricity per month.
For Consumers Using Up to 200 Units:
- Free solar systems to be offered
- Aimed at reducing electricity bills and promoting renewable energy
For Consumers Using up to 500 Units:
- Interest-free solar systems to be offered
- Easy installment plans to be available
- Encourages adoption of solar energy and reduces financial burden
The government will cover 90 percent of the cost of the solar panels while the remaining 10 percent will be paid by consumers using up to 500. The solar panels will be provided to consumers in interest-free easy installments over five years.
