Punjab govt introduces bike scheme for students, Check eligibility criteria here

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a new initiative under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, offering electric and petrol bikes to students. This program aims to improve student mobility and address transportation challenges.

Led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the initiative provides affordable and practical transportation options. While the bikes are not free, installment plans are available to all students.

CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting students, noting that the bikes will ease commutes and save both time and money.

“This project will offer convenience to students and improve their academic performance by saving travel time,” she said.

To assist students lacking parental support, the initiative has removed the need for parental guarantees, making it more inclusive.

Who will be eligible for the bike scheme:

The eligibility criteria would be:

  • A Pakistani citizen residing in Punjab
  • Regular student in any public/private graduate college or university
  • Having National Identity Card
  • Having a valid driving license for a bike

The Chief Minister also announced plans to transition Punjab toward electric transportation, with solar-powered charging stations to be established throughout the province.

Battery insurance and warranties will be provided for electric bikes, ensuring a reliable and sustainable transport option. Additionally, helmets and protective gear will be mandatory for all bike recipients to enhance road safety.

To meet the standards, the Government of Punjab Pakistan, on orders of CM Punjab has designed the bikes with green color which is the prescribed hue of Punjab Government. CM had personally visited and had a view of the design and quality of bikes, ordering strictly the ensure quality and standard. She also instructed authorities to color the bikes.
