LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced new measures to combat smog, focusing on stricter vehicle regulations. One important decision is not to issue M-tags to vehicles that do not have a fitness certificate.
The new rule is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat air pollution. Vehicle owners will now have to show their registration book and license along with their fitness certificate while applying for an M-tag.
Furthermore, vehicles older than 30 years will be banned from entering Lahore from October to January. These old vehicles will also be banned from travelling on motorways during this period.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said that these measures are necessary due to severe smog in the region. The rules will initially apply to government vehicles.
The Services and General Administration Department will provide details of government vehicles for the implementation of the new regulations. The government is committed to ensuring that these rules apply to both private and commercial vehicles.
