two blasts in Hangu

HANGU: Police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations, martyred in twin blasts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Hangu on Friday, police said.

According to the initial information, the first explosion targeted a police checkpost in the jurisdiction of Baliamina police station, immediately after which SP Operation Hangu, Asad Zubair, went to the scene to inspect the incident.

Meanwhile, the second blast occurred targeting the SP’s convoy, martyring the officer, his gunman Dawood, and driver Atif on the spot, a police official said.

At least three other cops were injured in the second blast and were shifted to DHQ Hospital Hangu.

According to the police, the first blast caused no casualties, though a room near the checkpoint was destroyed.

After the incident, police and security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation, while security has been put on high alert across the city.

In a statement on his ministry’s X account, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi “strongly condemned” the blasts, paying tributes to the martyred police, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Asad Zubair.

He also extended “heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families” of the martyred policemen.

“The sacrifice of martyred SP Asad Zubair and two other police personnel will not go in vain. The sacrifices of the officers and personnel of KP Police cannot be forgotten,” the statement quoted him as saying.
