Türkiye to host second round of Pakistan, Afghanistan talks

Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to continue ceasefire

ISTANBUL: Pakistan and the Afghan Governments will hold another round of talks today in Turkiye to finalize a mechanism to halt cross-border terrorism from Afghan soil.

“In fact, the Doha talks have been fruitful. We would like this trend to continue in Istanbul and beyond”, said the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Tahir Andrabi, in his first media talk after assuming office.

The Spokesperson added that no militant attack has occurred since the Doha talks which is a positive outcome, and Pakistan welcomes the development.

The spokesperson further announced that Afghan transit trade remains closed and will continue to stay suspended “until the security situation is reviewed.”

He added that the Doha ceasefire was finalized following delegation-level discussions led by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.

“We are participating in the Istanbul talks with all honesty. Our only demand from Afghanistan is that their soil must not be used against us.”He noted.

The Istanbul round, hosted by Türkiye, aims to finalize a monitoring framework to oversee implementation of the ceasefire and prevent future violations.
