ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department Punjab’s motor vehicle registration system has been down for the past two days, causing immense inconvenience to citizens across the province.According to excise officials, the system is being revamped and is undergoing an ongoing upgrade. The department is updating its software to reflect recent changes in tax rates, which has temporarily halted all registration-related activities.
Frustrated citizens have expressed their anger over the timing, saying it is extremely difficult to visit excise offices repeatedly in the scorching heat. “They should have upgraded to avoid public disruption during the holidays,” said a visitor.
People visiting excise offices in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and other cities were unable to register or transfer vehicles due to the shutdown. Services like issuance of number plates, transfer of ownership and payment of taxes have also been affected.
The Director Excise has assured that the system will be restored by tomorrow and has appealed to citizens not to panic.
Until then, applicants are advised to stay updated through official channels before visiting excise offices.
