Zain Qureshi ‘resigns’ as PTI’s deputy parliamentary leader

Zain Qureshi resigns as deputy parliamentary leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Zain Qureshi stepped down on Saturday as the party’s deputy parliamentary leader following the allegations about supporting the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s son including many others were issued show-cause notices by the party over their support during the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment, which violates the party policy, the party spokesperson said.

Taking on X, he announced his decision, saying that “he has resigned for a free and transparent inquiry and in recognition of the sentiment of our party supporters.” PTI leader confirmed that he has officially responded to the show-cause notice.

“I disappeared on the orders of my father Shah Mehmood Qureshi, senior party leader, and I could never think of voting for this constitutional amendment,” he said in a statement.

“In the interest of public transparency for all PTI supporters, I have now replied formally to my show cause notice providing a comprehensive account,” he wrote on X.

He further asserted, “I was, am, and will remain faithful to my party, to my leader Imran Khan, and to my father, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and all that he stands for.”

Earlier this week, Qureshi denied rumors about his presence in the National Assembly during voting for the constitutional amendments, saying that the allegation is “baseless propaganda”.

“I disappeared on the orders of my father Shah Mehmood Qureshi, senior party leader, and I could never think of voting for this constitutional amendment,” he said in a video statement.
