ISLAMABAD: Amid widespread hate and boycott calls, the Indian music label Saregama has removed the songs of the Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor starrer Abir Gulaal after the recent Pahalgam attack in IIOJK.
Since the incident, the much-anticipated film’s release remained in jeopardy as some Indian film bodies started opposing the release of Abir Gulaal due to the lead actor’s Pakistani citizenship.
The film, which was already facing challenges regarding its release in India, is now embroiled in further controversy, with its music being pulled from various platforms.
The songs ‘Khudaaya Ishq’ and ‘Angrezi Rangrasiya’ have been taken down from Saregama’s and the film’s official YouTube channels and other platforms. The tracks were released earlier this month.
Earlier, The Indian Express reported that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) called for a boycott of Pakistani artists.
“In the wake of these repeated attacks, FWICE reaffirms its unwavering commitment to national interest and solidarity. We reiterate our directive, originally issued on February 18, 2019, calling for complete non-cooperation with all Pakistan artists, singers, and technicians within the Indian film and entertainment industry,” it said in a statement.
However, the TLOMJ actor was among the many other Pakistani actors who condemned the attack, saying his thoughts and prayers were with the victims.
In an Instagram story, he wrote: “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrifying incident, and we pray for strength and healing for their families in this difficult time.”
