PCB announces new selection committee for men’s cricket team

PCB grants NOCs to several Pakistani cricketers for overseas leagues

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a new national selection committee on Friday, featuring esteemed former cricketers and an iconic umpire.

According to a press release on the PCB’s website, the new committee comprises five voting members: Aleem Dar, the renowned former ICC umpire, alongside accomplished former cricketers Aqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, and Azhar Ali, with Hasan Cheema completing the lineup.

The committee retained Asad Shafiq and Hasan Cheema from the previous panel. Notably, the head coach and captain will no longer be part of the committee, although the PCB will consult them on key decisions.

This overhaul follows Mohammad Yousuf’s resignation, prompting the board to expand the committee for improved decision-making.

Asad Shafiq will continue as a selector, collaborating with the head coach to ensure operational consistency. The reconstituted committee, faces a critical task of selecting the squad for the forthcoming white-ball series against Australia, with the team announcement expected next week.

This significant reshuffle aims to bring fresh expertise and perspectives to Pakistan’s men’s cricket team selection process.
